The planned redevelopment of the shopping centre IsoKristiina has taken a major step forward.
The owner of IsoKristiina, Citycon, and the Southern Karelia Cooperative Society (Eekoo) have signed lease agreements for two significant anchor stores. IsoKristiina will house Eekoo’s new high-quality, 2,300 m2 Sokos department store, and a 1.700 m2 S-market grocery store with versatile services.
“Sokos department store has a selection of various established clothing and cosmetics brands. It is natural that they are available right in the heart of the city. A grocery store that offers a diverse and extensive range of products complements the shopping centre’s service selection. We are very pleased with these lease agreements. They strengthen IsoKristiina’s position as the city’s number one shopping centre”, says Harri Holmström, Senior Vice President, Group Leasing, Citycon.
Citycon is planning to expand and totally refurbish the IsoKristiina shopping centre located in the centre of Lappeenranta. The expansion will also house the new premises for Lappeenranta City Theatre.
“IsoKristiina will be transformed into a next generation shopping centre, or rather an indoor city block that combines culture and retail services. We believe that customers from a wide-ranging area will come to the shopping centre, and that it will also attract Russian tourists, who have purchasing power and are coming to Lappeenranta in growing numbers", says Jukka Vakula, Director of Centre Management at Citycon.
“We have faith in the appeal of Lappenranta's city centre and want to be actively involved in developing it. The service and product demand of the hard to please residents of the city centre and international customers will be strongly reflected in the offerings of the new department store and grocery shop", says Olli Vormisto, CEO of Eekoo.
“The preparations for the IsoKristiina project and its leasing activities are progressing strongly now", says Project Development Manager Heikki Alen, who leads the IsoKristiina project for Citycon.
