The ‘Great Toy Drive’ organised by Citycon’s shopping centres in Finland was chosen as the Marketing Act of the Year in the Retail Awards for 2011. The awards, handed out by Kaupan Maailma magazine and the easyFair Myymälä trade fair, were presented during the trade fair at the Helsinki Fair Centre on 2 March 2011. The Retail Awards give credit to visionary organisations in the retail sector through awards in seven categories, including Marketing Act of the Year. The jury praised the campaign for its environment-friendly concept and its interaction with the local people in the shopping centres’ surrounding areas.
Citycon has now held a nationwide toy collection campaign in its Finnish shopping centres for four consecutive years, in collaboration with the Mannerheim League for Child Welfare and its local organisations. In 2011, Radio Nova was also on board as a partner. The toy collection campaign, which takes place on or around Valentine’s Day, has resulted in total 200,000 toys, books, and games being donated to disadvantaged children. The number of toys collected has nearly doubled each year.
The shopping centres that took part in the 2011 campaign (from 10am to 2pm on Saturday, 12 February) were:
